Familial Agriculture, a ‘People-Profit’ initiative of Michelin

An interesting story, we met Ivanice, her right hand and her grandchild at her farm, not far from the Michelin area. Michelin developed several educational and other support programs for its employees, their employees and their families, but they decided to share their knowledge also outside their own area. By now, over 1,000 small farmers in 65 different communities are being supported by Michelin in one way or another. Continue reading

Discovering the Mata Atlantica in the Michelin reserve, a smart ‘Planet’ project

Out of the 9,000 hectares, the total size of the Michelin area in the South of Bahia, 5,000 hectares is a nature reserve and is dedicated to the Mata Atlantica. First of all this means that no new rubber trees are planted here and no trees are cut. Second, next to the protection and maintaining of what is left of the Mata Atlantica, Michelin has set the goal of reforesting the area as well. Continue reading

What is being done to save the Atlantic Rainforest in Brazil?

Luckily there are more and more initiatives to save the Mata Atlantica, from maintaining and protecting what is left to reforesting parts that have disappeared. Good examples are SOS Mata Atlantica, Arvorar by IPE, Michelin in Itubera, Dannemann in Bahia and CoolTravel Forest. Continue reading
